The Ten Commandments of Streaming - Passover Special

This week, on Friday Night Movie: the sibs begin a new annual Passover tradition - the Ten Commandments of Friday Night Movie. This year the commandments are all about streaming services - stick around for another year to hear the new commandments will be for 2022! We don’t want to give away too much, but Lily needs to get more obscure and niche, Becky needs to get more to the point with the plot, and Shai needs to put less faith in Netflix’s rankings! The Snyder Cut and the Winter Falcon

This week on Friday Night Movie! We dive right into the newest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Falcon and the Winter Soldier: the sibs make predictions, and Lily, generally, wants to know what’s happening here. Continuing in the superhero streamfest, we dive into the Snyder Cut - the 2021 director’s cut of the 2017 film Justice League. Lily and Becky, despite never having seen it, weigh in with their detailed thoughts, while Shai provides somewhat of a more informed opinion.

Oscar Noms and Boss Level

This week, on Friday Night Movie! It’s the most wonderful time of the year: awards season. Oscar noms came out this week, and we have some opinions. Becky is more than a little bit pumped for Crip Camp, and Shai is over the moon for Soul. PG Psycho Goreman Special with Director, Steve Kostanski

This week was a fantastical one at Friday Night Movie: Steve Kostanski, the director of Shai’s current horror-comedy obsession, PG Psycho Goreman, joined the sibs for an interview! Steve talked about the magic of practical special effects, his chemistry with frequent collaborator Adam Brooks and the Astron 6 crew, and the importance of PG having a soundtrack that ROCKED as hard as Queen. Then they did a classic compare-a-thon of horror movie masters, and some buy/rent/meh (with He-Man, NInja Turtles, and Thundercats). Barb, Star, and Becky go to Arlington (and Vista Del Mar)

This week on Friday Night Movie: all 3 sibs are back for the first time in a couple of weeks and the usual chaos ensues. Becky and Shai are officially next door neighbors - the Korman presence in Arlington has doubled. This episode’s feature film review is the new release Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar, starring Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, respectively, as the title characters. Many questions were raised by the sibs - important queries such as, “was the pitch to this movie  suitcase packing?”, “is this Austin Powers?!", "Are Jamie Dornan and Sam Heughan REALLY different people?" Superbowl Commercials 2021and that time eBay tried to sell Shai racist propaganda

This week on Friday Night Movie: It’s the Superbowl, and the sibs were READY for the commercials - and some football too, or whatever. Special guest, and advertising maestro, Bobby Buttons, returned to help the sibs process their reactions. Social justice themed ads fell flat - as Lily put it, “I couldn’t tell if they were altruistic or like, Kendall Jenner handing out Pepsi at a protest”. And they’re definitely not buying DoorDash or UberEats talking about eating local (Becky was greatly offended by them dragging Sesame Street into this mess). Lily is embarrassed for Cheetos, Becky’s reaction can be best described as “it was so bad it’s meh”, and Shai was excited for Will Ferrell’s GM ad. Later in the episode, the sibs unpacked what they’ve been streaming, from season 2 of The Code and the Price is Right to Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Crazy-Ex Girlfriend (shoutout to Robin Coomer for the rec!), but let’s be real - it was Superbowl Sunday, and this one is all about the ads!
All that and the episode kicks off with Shai telling the story of how eBay’s algorithm kept trying to sell him racist literature.

This week, on Friday Night Movie: Shai went skiing, Becky is moving (The confusion! The chaos! The clutter!), and Lily’s kids are, well, generally confused about seasons. This is all before the movie starts playing, folks. The sibs dive into Christopher Nolan’s highly controversial (and yes, confusing, that’s a theme here at FNM today) movie Tenet. Shai somehow manages to explain the entire movie in just two minutes (whether it was comprehensive is debatable). And speaking of debates, a lively one ensues over whether it’s an overdone vanity piece, or the underrated soon-to-be cult classic of the new decade.

Screenwriter and all around mysterious dude, Dave Scharf, joins the pod to talk about the art of crafting screenplays.
