Jackie Tohn (Glow, Best Leftovers Ever, Do Re & Mi, A Futile and Stupid Gesture)

The extraordinary Jackie Tohn (Glow, Best Leftovers Ever) joins the Friday Night Movie siblings for a discussion that goes everywhere from comedy to music to our families' shared history in Poland. Jackie keeps us laughing so hard it hurts when she plays Buy/Rent/Meh in an epic face-off between gefilte fish, chopped liver, and rolled cabbage. And she brings tears of joy to our eyes when she busted out a gorgeous a cappella rendition of "Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls. We also dive deep into Jackie's iconic role as Melrose on Glow, where she infused the fan favorite character with her own family's Jewish history. Promising Young Woman: A Superhero Movie?

This week, on Friday Night Movie! We are all about the new Academy-Award winning film Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan. We are joined by Robyn Kopp, a film expert and producer based in San Francisco, CA. Robyn served as Associate Producer on the BAFTA nominated film, AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER which was selected to be the opening night film of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.  In addition to her producing work, Robyn served as co-director on the independent, successfully crowd funded documentary series about HIV Prevention called The PrEP Project, which has over 300,000 views on social media platforms. Since 2014, Robyn has worked at Actual Films alongside filmmakers Bonni Cohen, Jon Shenk and Richard Berge to produce a broad range of film & video projects across departments. Birth Stories from our Mom: Mother‘s Day Special

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for the Korman siblings: Mother’s Day. The official mom of Friday Night Movie joins her kids to recount how each of them was born (with lots of details). Then the sibs reflect on the times their own children were born, of course, with the hilarious perspective of their mother. From there, we keep the theme going with a review of movie birthing scenes, from Look Who’s Talking to Knocked Up, with a stop along the way to unpack whatever it was that was happening with the Twilight vampire baby.

The Snyder Cut and the Winter Falcon

This week on Friday Night Movie! We dive right into the newest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Falcon and the Winter Soldier: the sibs make predictions, and Lily, generally, wants to know what’s happening here. Continuing in the superhero streamfest, we dive into the Snyder Cut - the 2021 director’s cut of the 2017 film Justice League. Lily and Becky, despite never having seen it, weigh in with their detailed thoughts, while Shai provides somewhat of a more informed opinion.

Oscar Noms and Boss Level

This week, on Friday Night Movie! It’s the most wonderful time of the year: awards season. Oscar noms came out this week, and we have some opinions. Becky is more than a little bit pumped for Crip Camp, and Shai is over the moon for Soul. In between now and the Oscars, the sibs are looking forward to watching all of the amazing movies they missed while they were watching movies like Boss Level (which they review in this ep). PG Psycho Goreman Special with Director, Steve Kostanski

This week was a fantastical one at Friday Night Movie: Steve Kostanski, the director of Shai’s current horror-comedy obsession, PG Psycho Goreman, joined the sibs for an interview! Steve talked about the magic of practical special effects, his chemistry with frequent collaborator Adam Brooks and the Astron 6 crew, and the importance of PG having a soundtrack that ROCKED as hard as Queen. Then they did a classic compare-a-thon of horror movie masters, and some buy/rent/meh (with He-Man, NInja Turtles, and Thundercats). Barb, Star, and Becky go to Arlington (and Vista Del Mar)

This week on Friday Night Movie: all 3 sibs are back for the first time in a couple of weeks and the usual chaos ensues. Becky and Shai are officially next door neighbors - the Korman presence in Arlington has doubled. This episode’s feature film review is the new release Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar, starring Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, respectively, as the title characters. Many questions were raised by the sibs - important queries such as, “was the pitch to this movie  suitcase packing?”, “is this Austin Powers?!", "Are Jamie Dornan and Sam Heughan REALLY different people?" Superbowl Commercials 2021and that time eBay tried to sell Shai racist propaganda

This week on Friday Night Movie: It’s the Superbowl, and the sibs were READY for the commercials - and some football too, or whatever. Special guest, and advertising maestro, Bobby Buttons, returned to help the sibs process their reactions. Social justice themed ads fell flat - as Lily put it, “I couldn’t tell if they were altruistic or like, Kendall Jenner handing out Pepsi at a protest”. And they’re definitely not buying DoorDash or UberEats talking about eating local (Becky was greatly offended by them dragging Sesame Street into this mess). Lily is embarrassed for Cheetos, Becky’s reaction can be best described as “it was so bad it’s meh”, and Shai was excited for Will Ferrell’s GM ad. Later in the episode, the sibs unpacked what they’ve been streaming, from season 2 of The Code and the Price is Right to Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Crazy-Ex Girlfriend (shoutout to Robin Coomer for the rec!), but let’s be real - it was Superbowl Sunday, and this one is all about the ads!
All that and the episode kicks off with Shai telling the story of how eBay’s algorithm kept trying to sell him racist literature.

This week, on Friday Night Movie: Shai went skiing, Becky is moving (The confusion! The chaos! The clutter!), and Lily’s kids are, well, generally confused about seasons. This is all before the movie starts playing, folks. The sibs dive into Christopher Nolan’s highly controversial (and yes, confusing, that’s a theme here at FNM today) movie Tenet. Shai somehow manages to explain the entire movie in just two minutes (whether it was comprehensive is debatable). And speaking of debates, a lively one ensues over whether it’s an overdone vanity piece, or the underrated soon-to-be cult classic of the new decade.

Best Screenplays of All Time with Dave Scharf

What makes a great script? What are some of the greatest scripts of all time? How do great scripts turn into messes on the screen? Screenwriter and all around mysterious dude, Dave Scharf, joins the pod to talk about the art of crafting screenplays.
